Job Description

We are offering a part time, 3 month position, approximately 3 days per week, with flexibility around working days. What we are looking for  

An experienced Senior Legal Counsel to assist the Head of Governance and Legal in ensuring effective contract review and negotiation and general legal advice in support of UNICEF Australia’s strategic objectives. 

 

Your day will include  

  • Contract drafting and negotiation: Draft, review and negotiate a wide range of commercial agreements and identify and mitigate legal risks associated to minimize potential liabilities. 

  • Legal advice: Provide legal advice in relation to a range of legal matters including privacy, fundraising, insurance, intellectual property, child employment, bequests and disclaimers. 

  • General: Participate in organisational programmes, initiatives and projects as required. Contribute to strategic and operational priorities, discussions and decisions as a member of the Financial Solutions Team and drive collaboration and sharing of best practice. 

 

We would like you to have the following skills and experience  

  • University degree in law and holder of a current Australian legal practising certificate  

  • 10+ years’ experience as a commercial lawyer, preferably inside a top or mid-tier law firm and/or in-house 

  • Extensive experience in commercial contract law and in researching and advising on a wide range of legal issues 

  • Extensive experience in translating legal concepts into practical advice for non-lawyers 

  • Strong Plain English drafting skills
