This Privacy Statement sets out the approach which the Australian Committee for UNICEF Ltd (UNICEF Australia, 'we', 'our' or 'us') will take in relation to the handling of Personal Information of a prospective employee in accordance with the Privacy Act 1988 (Cth) (Privacy Act). A prospective employee is a person who has applied for a position, whether in writing or verbally, and until such time as you become an employee with us or in circumstances where your application is unsuccessful or does not proceed.  

What information do we collect?  

The kinds of personal information that we collect and hold about you may include but not limited to: 

  • Your name  
  • ​Address  
  • Contact Details  
  • Resume  
  • Education background  
  • Employment History  
  • Referees  
  • Results of Police and Working with Children Checks 
  • Screening results (related to the requirements of the role)  

Any information that is made known to UNICEF Australia through the recruitment or screening process will remain strictly confidential. 

How do we collect information? 

We collect personal information about you in the following ways: 

  • when you make an application for a role, for example when you send us your resume; 
  • when you fill in relevant screening questions throughout the process 
  • when you attend an interview; 

If we request you to or conduct any employment/aptitude assessments 

  • when we conduct reference checks; and 
  • when you complete final probity checks as a part of the offer process, eg Criminal check and Working with Children check 

We may collect personal information about you from a third party, for example from a recruitment agency or in relation to a police or criminal history check, or a working with children check. You can change or access these personal details at any time. However, if you do not wish to provide certain information requested by us this may limit our ability to progress your application for employment. 

How do we use your information? 

We use personal information that we collect about you for the following purposes: 

  • to assess your application for employment; 
  • to communicate with you; and 
  • to conduct screening for employment purposes. 

If your application is successful, we will retain your information as part of your employment records. If your application is unsuccessful, we may retain your information on file and may contact you if a suitable employment opportunity arises or if there are other positions available that may be of interest to you.

When do we disclose your information? 

We may disclose the information you submit or tell us to  related companies and entities, recruitment agencies, and other relevant organisations who perform services on our behalf during the recruitment process.  We may also discuss your application with any referees you provide us as apart of the process.  

What happens if I become an employee? 

Once you become an employee your personal information will be handled consistent with internal policy and procedures and any appropriate regulatory requirements.
