What we are looking for
We are seeking an experienced and purpose‑driven Policy and Advocacy Manager to lead UNICEF Australia’s child rights policy and advocacy work.
This role leads UNICEF Australia’s child rights policy and advocacy work to deliver tangible improvements for children and young people. It develops strong evidence and policy positions and works with decision‑makers and partners to influence policy, legislation, funding, practice and systems change.
Your day will include
- Leading child rights policy research, analysis and monitoring across Australian and international contexts
- Developing clear, evidence‑based policy positions, briefings and submissions to support advocacy priorities
- Influencing policy, legislation, funding and systems change by engaging with governments and key decision‑makers
- Building and maintaining strong relationships with stakeholders across government, civil society, academia and the private sector
- Representing UNICEF Australia through advocacy activity, public communications and selected media and events
We would like you to have the following skills and experience
- At least 7 years’ experience across policy, advocacy or government‑related roles, ideally within child rights or social impact contexts
- Strong research and policy analysis skills, with the ability to translate complex issues into clear, persuasive written advice
- Sound understanding of Australian government and parliamentary processes, including inquiries and submissions
- Proven ability to influence and work effectively with senior stakeholders across sectors
- Excellent communication skills (written and verbal), and willingness to speak publicly on child rights issues
- A strong commitment to UNICEF Australia’s purpose, values and child safeguarding principles
- Desirable - Expertise in digital and tech policy including online safety, data and privacy, artificial intelligence, and/or online child exploitation
