Job Description

From vaccinating children in war zones to providing early childhood education access in Indigenous communities, donations help us to protect every child, no matter what. 

Whilst our preference is 4 days a week, we are open to a working pattern that is flexible or someone building to 4 days over an initial agreed period.  Our contract will commence as 8 months with the possibility to extend, if the work continues to take shape and build momentum!

What we are looking for   

We are looking for someone with solid business process skills and strong data analyst skills to guide the implementation of numerous ‘’use cases’’ through ideation to effective delivery into production use by staff (ie: end to end). A key feature of this role is engaging cross-functionally and providing expertise to guide UA use of a strategic data platform.  

You’ll be a core member of our strategic ‘’prepare for the future’’ initiative to help guide UNICEF Australia across a range of improvements. UNICEF Australia is in the early stages of introducing a strategic data platform (Microsoft Fabric) to bring together disparate internal data sources and identify suitable external data sources to improve decision-making. This initiative will focus on supporting the organisation’s achievement of our strategic objectives; through dashboards, reporting, and data insights. 

 

Your day will include 

  1. Business Process Analysis 

  • Collaboration cross-functionally with stakeholders to gather and document business requirements, conducting thorough analysis and mapping.  

  • Shape the creation and documentation of ‘’use cases’’ for the strategic data platform, focused on benefit to be realised  

  • Provide expert guide and coaching for staff to translating how current processes could be re-imagined.  

  • Produce low-fi / hi-fi mock-ups for required dashboards and reports  

 

  1. Data Analysis 

  • Develop and deploy dashboards, reports, or any other BI methods to support decision-making  

  • Design and implement data models / structures in support of ‘’use case’’ implementation  

  • Perform data validation, testing and quality checks to ensure the accuracy and reliability of data inputs and outputs.  

  • Ensure data governance remains core to project deliver, particularly regarding permissions and access to sensitive data  

 

  1. Documentations and Process 

  • Develop and maintain comprehensive documentation, including process maps, data flows, requirements matrix, and technical specifications.  

  • Self-manage project progress and status reporting  

  • Provide training to core staff on how to understand and use new dashboard and reports  

 

We would like you to have the following skills and experience  

  • Strong stakeholder management and communication skills   

  • Proficiency in suitable technical skills: SQL, Python, PowerBI  

  • Proficiency in Microsoft’s Azure data environment, specifically ETL processes as part of Data Factory and familiarity with OneLake and with standard Medallion data architectures  

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills; confidence to ask questions and dig deeper.  

  • Solid understanding of data security and privacy requirements  

  • Project management skillset to move the project forward (tracking, status reporting)  

  • Demonstrated ability to take initiative and work independently towards deadlines in a professional and confident manner.  

  • Understanding and commitment to the rights of children and the work of UNICEF  

  • At least 3 years of experience in comparable work
